This week I thought I’d share a Charity Case study
The Charities Challenges.
A local hospice regularly send out news letters via direct mail to their donors – this not only informs the donors of the exciting news about the hospice but also helps to keep the hospice in peoples mind for future donations.
Over recent months they noticed that a lot of mail was being returned by the Royal Mail – A key indicator that the data they held on their database wasn’t up to date.

They wanted to reduce the wastage on their mailing returns and adhere to data protection legislation.
Plus they also wanted to understand the different types of donors on their donor database and lottery database allowing them to target new prospects efficiently.
Data Bubbles Solutions
The database sent to Data Bubble for data cleaning and data processing against the industry files. This identified people who had moved or died which were taken out of the mailing. Plus we were able to identify 80% new addresses of the people who have moves allowing the charity to re-establish contact with these previous donors.
Profiling reports were provided for both the donor database and the lottery database identifying the different characteristics for each database. The profiling reports offered insightful and detailed information enabling them to make informed decisions as who they wanted to target for their donor and lottery campaign.
Results
Consumer data was supplied for a mailing campaign and for a telephone campaign resulting in a 10% increase in donations for the campaign. Return mailing were reduced saving the charity over £700 in postage and print costs.
Updated records were maintained thereby complying with data protection.
